Although it is important for everyone to have health insurance, it is imperative that your children have coverage. Children have a better chance of getting sick, and when you’re young you need to take care of an illness immediately. This is why every child needs to have health insurance. Unfortunately, there are millions of children without health insurance, and we need to do something about this in the future.

If your children do not have health insurance, you should get them coverage today. If you have a health plan through your employer, you could add your child to that plan. If you have an individual health plan, you can get your child covered for a modest price through on line web sites like WhitleyBenefits.com.

With more and more people going to work for themselves, people are buying individual health plans on their own. This has led to numerous mistakes being made. Don’t be the next victim. Here are a few mistakes to avoid when purchasing your individual health plan:

1) Don’t buy your health insurance policy until you have compared all of your options. There are many health insurance providers available with a variety of options. Find one that best fits your needs.

2) If you have a personal physician, make sure he/she accepts the company and type of plan that you are planning to buy. You can find out in the company’s list of providers.

3) Do not buy a plan with a deductible that is too high for your budget, unless you are looking for the lowest price available. This is important because the deductible is the amount of money you must spend before the insurance company begins to pay. On co-pay plans, this is only when you have to go to the hospital.

4) Finally, make sure you choose a highly rated, reputable company that will stand behind you when you need it. You can find brokers on line like Whitley Benefits.com who only offer the top rated carriers in the state.

If you can follow these guidelines for avoiding mistakes, you should be in good shape for your next health insurance policy purchase.

A Health Savings Account is a tax-favored savings account combined with a qualifying high-deductible health insurance plan. It allows you to deposit funds tax free into an account to cover medical expenses. This enables you to take control of your own health care decisions.

You must first have a high-deductible health insurance plan that qualifies to be partnered with an HSA. These plan are available through various insurance companies and through web sites like Whitley Benefits.com. The plans are all similar in the fact that they have deductibles between $1,100 and $5,600 for singles, and $2,200 and $11,200 for families. Once your insurance plan becomes effective, you may fund your HSA account.

HSA’s allow you to legally avoid federal income tax by saving up to $2,900 for singles or $5,800 for families, into your HSA account. There is no minimum deposit, but whatever you deposit into your account by April 15th is an “above the line” tax deduction for the prior year’s income tax. This is available to everyone, with no limitations on the amount or source of income.

If you cancel your HSA-qualified health insurance before you’ve had the coverage for a full year, your maximum contribution amount is pro-rated based on the number of months in force.

There are several factors to consider when deciding which health insurance company is right for you. It should be taken seriously, and you should do as much research as possible. First of all, choose a company that offers several different types of health insurance plans. These include PPO’s, HMO’s and Health Savings Accounts. Each has pros and cons that will benefit you depending upon your situation. Another factor to consider is the network provider list. If you have a doctor that you would like to keep, make sure he/she is in the company provider network. If your physician is not in the network, you will not receive the discount co-pay available to you.

With the rising cost of health insurance, price should also be a concern when choosing your health insurance company. Most companies offer a variety of low cost plans to fit your budget.

Finally, make sure you choose a reputable, top rated health insurance company. Some of the top carriers include, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana and Health Net.
